I am about to bag my truck (97 c1500 ext cab) finally and i am not sure how to correctly assemble these push to connect fittings...Do i still use teflon tape or do i use the liquid? I could always go ghetto and just RTV dem bitches... AND i also noticed in some of the fourms that i would need a lower control arm? I have a bolt on kit for the front...would i still need a new lower control arm? Please help me out, i would like to do this correctly the first time...

Liquid is better but tape will work fine. Just after you do it take a water bottle with a little soap in it and spray all your fittings and watch for it to bubble up where you have leaks.. Check us out for parts if you still need some

I had the push to connect fittings on my truck, they suck! DONT use the teflon tape! Use the liquid form. If you want it done right with NO leaks, go with Parker auto-loc fittings and air line. IF bagged my truck with the push to connect and plastic hose and it NEVER HELD air, so this weekend i changed everything out to Parker and i havent found a leak yet, plus i went with a bigger line.

definately use all brass push to connects or compression fittings. either parker or SMC DOT line is fine. i use teflon tape and have no problems, unless the fitting is going into a slam specialties bag, then use thread loc.

Well you could also wrap your fitting 2 times with the tape and then put some loctite (272) on it!! I had a problem last week with shit leaking so I went to Grainger's and picked up some LOCTITE 272 and it works great. It's around $30.00 for a bottle but well worth it. And if you have any qusetions about baggin your truck just hit me up I have a 97 also check it out!!!!

Check if the fitting has pre applied sealant. It will be orange or white. If not use some teflon paste on the threads. Cut your line square, lick it, and push it in till it bottoms out. When I used PTC's, after assembly, I'd use my finger to pull the lock back all the way while holding the hose in to ensure the release ring is completely disengaged.

Well Juan you have a fullsized chevy, which means you have a lot more wieght to move around then mini's which will require better fittings and line. This weekend i did my whole system with the Parker line and barb fittings WITH teflon tape and it dropped in 30 seconds to the frame, almost every seal was leaking. So i did it all again this time using NAPA's Thread Sealant with Teflon and its been up for 3 days, no leaks.

thanks everyone for the input, all of it is extremely helpful, and if this doesnt work out, then i will definately move up to a bigger line and fittings...and if dat dont work, well, EOD on base can have a field day with it. i will update when the truck is done this weekend, peace...

so what you are all saying... is that PTC fittings SUCK... and you should go with Compression?

Also, I know that you put the Teflon tape around threaded fittings, but are you all reffering to putting tape/silicone on the PTC/ Compression fittings... thus, wrapping the hose then pushing it into the fitting?

Thanks!

the parker airbrake fittings are badass, they are all brass and DOT approved. they are like ptc fittings, but hold and cost like a compression.
