I thought I have seen this before but thought Id ask again. After my bodydrop tried to start my Expedition and it wants to turnover but then it dies and the security light comes on. Any suggestions? Do you think that trying a different key will work?

id try a different key and see if that works, did u cut any wires or forget to put a ground on?

its not reading the transponder in the key, there is a little chip that wakes up in the electromagnetic field around the ignition switch.

Try another key, I've seen those little transponders fall out of keys before. Its just a little square at the top of the key head. If another key doesnt work, you have iether lost programming on the ECM that controls the anti theft key, or something did not get hooked back up.

If I lost the programming how do I get that back, or bypass it? Also the key was in the ignition the whole time of the body drop.

I'm no kinda electronics guru, but do you think the welding and all taking place could have affectd it being that the welder is grounded to the vehicle maybe

taht could be the prob, if u disconnected the battery w/ the key in it it coulda fucked it up.

might be fuel shut off switch which is located on the pass. side kick panel, thats what happened to mine...somewhere along the line i hit the switch and took me a week to figure out what was wrong.

google is your friend.

In a few minutes time, I found the following information.

1. The security key will not keep the engine from cranking. If your engine stops cranking it is not the PATS system. The PATS system only cuts spark, so your engine would crank and crank and crank if the key had lost programming.

2. Common causes of the engine stopping cranking are (most obviously) A DEAD BATTERY. Do not just check the voltage on the battery, you can have volts and no amps. A BAD STARTER RELAY ON THE FIREWALL Since you did a bodydrop you may have uinplugged or damaged it in some way. STARTER SOLENIOD/ STARTER Check the terminals for corrosion. Check the starter itself.

hmm if it starts then dies wouldnt it be a sensor problem on the motor? sounds like an IAC vavle...

if it was the code in the key all it would do is crank and crank so if it starts then dies its not the key
