A friend of mine made a tubular setup on his bagged frontier. He called me today (about 3 months after installation) and said that he was having major problems. He tells me that the pipe is actually ripping itself away from the welds, furthermore he believes this is due to the fact of the metal content of the pipe (is it part cast?) from Home Depot ( I believe it's 1 inch tubing as well). Also, this was all welded together with a miller 210 welder, so he firmly belives the welds themselves are strong, but the pipe is not strong enough to bond itself to the weld? Any suggestions, Opinions, comments? Thanks.....

its because its PIPE from homedepot. he needs to go to a steel shop and get tubing. big big big diffrence. im suprised it lasted 3 months. so its not his welds, its the material. the home depot pipe is like $1 a foot or something, some DOM is like $8-9 a foot

....WOW...

Thats what i figured. Also, he noticed how easily it bent in the tubing bender, is this also because of the content of the Pipe? What i really wanna know is what this pipe is composed of.......

I`ve gotten this tubing from a local hardware store thats black and I`m not too sure what 'schedule' it is, but its like 3/16" thick. Anyways I`ve used it on my old truck, current truck, and 3 of my boys trucks and is holding up awesome! Maybe some different sh*t though.

it may also have something to do with improper preperation of the weld surface. if he didnt grind the surface to be welded to then he wont get a strong bond from the weld to the weld surface. the material will appear to be pulling itself from the weld

Good point about preping the surface. Just because this dude had a big miller, he says that if you put the setting high enough...it will burn through anything. I guess that wasn't a good idea either! LOL!
But still...lets say the pipe was cleaned and preped....is it reliable to use?

hey did you go to low rollers, the kid with the pink nissan was running that for his link bars, the pipe was 1.5" od with over 1/4" wallthickness and he liked it.

i have used that same black pipe from lowes or home depot. but i didnt used it on my truck. i used it on a go-kart. there was practically no weight on it. i woulndt dare use it for anything like a truck or 4 link setup. i wouldnt trust it. but for my application its holding up fine

I didn't make it to lowrollers this year, but is the pink nissan you are talking about, is it the one with the huge hydraulic cylinders in the rear? Anyways.....I still wanna know is it a good idea or bad idea to use home depot pipe?
