bags behind axle

anyone used the behind the axle bag mounts? trying to see if the ride is the same as them being over the axle, even though being a few inches toward the back, i see most coilovers and strut bags being mounted to the rear of the axle, but just wanted to hear from people that have them mounted like this.

In the process now ,sleeve bags behind the axle w/ a tri forward 4-link. The bottom bars will mount off the bag bracket.

I used to have a behind the axle setup on my dakota before we started changing everything, actually rode quite well and i used the KP Components kit, top notch stuff I think you'll like it

My old setup had the bags behind the axle and there were no real noticble differances in ride as compared to mounting them directly over the axle. It helps keep everything mounted nice and low as well which I like the look of too. Ricky from Why Not Fab did a Nissan with this type of setup and it looked really nice. Maybe he will post the pix again?

My friend hasn't driven the truck really since I finished, he's doing an engine swap.. but when we did ride in it it seemed about the same as over the axle IMO. A cool thing about the brackets (besides keeping themselves under the bed) was they can be used as lower 4-link tabs as well if you order 2.5" wide bar ends on the axle end of your link.

yea, i dont see where the ride would be any different. the line of action of the bracket is still in the center of the axle, so it would be as if the bag was mounted there.

ya there wouldnt be a difference in ride because youre just moving the location on the axle, not putting them on a lever or something.

just checkin, because the mount is actually no lower than the top of the axle, just 4-5" farther back than the center so i can fit a 4 link on the top of the axle tubes, i was thinkin the farther back you mount, the less weight there is on the bags, and that would change the ride alittle, guess 5" isnt gonna make a diff though. since its not my truck i was gonna get some opinions on it.

I had sleeve bags behind the axle on my 97 Dakota. I changed them to 2500 bags & it had the same ride, just a little less lift, then i moved them to the top of the axle. It rides worse & has even less lift.

at least i learned somthing out all that work... i wasted my time.

Use an undersized bag or sleeve if your going to mount it far behind the axle(like 6" or more behind the tube). I use to tow with my dually so I chose to put them behind. Rode a little stiff unloaded and didn't get much lift. Now that I'm not going to use it as a truck, I switched to sleeve type and they are mounted right off the rear of the axle. Just picture a wheel barrow, if you use the end of the handles it's easy to lift but not much distance. If you lift it at the wheel it moves exactly the distance you lift it but it would be real heavy.
