whats the difference in putting the load/helper spring on top rather that on bottom

which way should i put it ? ?

dont leave it on the bottom
it could prove very bad
hit the brakes to hard and it may hit the ground
it goes on top to kinda help de-arch the main leaf

I know this is old but hopefully I will be doing this at the same time as the motor swap. I plan on leaving the leaf pack alone so with 3 inch blocks, will I need to get new shocks? or will the stockers work? Also, how do you check to make sure the pinion angle stays the same? I know I'll have to double check that its square.

3" blocks on any truck is a very mild drop. Stock shocks will be more than fine and the pinion angle, I have pulled the leafs out and ran 4" of blocks and still had NO issues with pinion angle, no vibration or chatter what so ever. Did this on 2 Mazda's. G\L

One note to make this a LITTLE bit easier.....when bending out the clamps that hold each leaf pack together, on one end, you have to follow the instructions in the write up, use a large screwdriver ( LARGE ) and get the one end free. Go ahead and follow the instructions to release the load on the leafs....remove the alignment bolt in the center....THEN....to undo the other clamp, simply take the middle leafs which are now free and pull towards you....they do a GREAT job of bending the other clamp open with little to no effort and it only takes a second.

Hey ugly or anybody, i got a question. what size socket head cap screw do you use to replace the spring pins??
this looks super easy to do, even for a noob like me but I would like to get the bolts before i start the job.

k so i just ended up doing the procedure, and da drop i got was lovely I definately need to get new shocks, not too sure on which ones to get tho.

i followed the writeup pretty much to the "T" except i used a crowbar instead of the screwdriver and i reused the spring pin.

so i just gotta drop da front a bit and get new shocks YAY!!

the only thing i worry about is the spring possibly breaking other then that YAY!! LOL!!

Thanx for the writeup!!!

quick question on one of the pics looks like the overload spring is on top instead of on the bottom on the leafs is this right? will it allow u to go lower?
89mazdalade   +1y
i kept mine in the stock location under the main leaf just removed the loose leafs and kept the overload leaf with the main leaf now if i move the overload to the top would this let me lay lower?? thanks

Hey 89mazda!

with my truck the frame touches the axle with little effort, LOL!! I got 3in blocks and the this monoleaf setup here. my stock tires tuck under the bed about a 1/2 inch or maybe more. I don't really like how the main spring is bending but it won't bend anymore cuz the axle just hits the frame. I might just take the springs off my cousins parts truck and do the drop with the overload leaf under like how you did. not sure yet. I'll try and get a pic for you to see. haven't worked on the truck for a bit, haven't had time.
