i never would have thought of that. one comment tho.. you could skip the "shrinking" step with the vice grips if you just made your round backing plate and bent the flat sheetmetal over it and did a corner weld... then you don't have the uh, i don't know what to call it... lol frilly? flange on the inside.

i ws thinking this too, but it wouldn't give it the rounded edge it would be sharp
