I'm just wondering what the pros a cons are of both, as far as building control arms is concerned. Which is stronger? I'm thinking about building some for an independant rear.

tig is gona be stronger since u can concentrate the heat were the weld is... IMO both are strong.

tig gets better penetration becase of heat consentration but the downside to it is it takes lots of practice with the foot pedal to get good. mig is very strong also and easier to use. just point and shoot.

what about mig without gas ? we have one at work that works with or without gas.

flux core will give you a deeper cut. just not as clean looking. its basically stick welding, but easier.

for control arms, MIG will do just fine. TIG is better, but both will be plenty strong.

tig it, you have so much more control over how you tig weld and it makes a much cleaner, stronger, and prettier weld if you know what your doing. if you've never tig welded i suggest practicing on LOTS of scrap before you decide to build your own arms.

Tig is cleaner looking and stronger. The most effiecient as far as the welding process, but Mig is strong enough. If you're going to metal-finish your arms smooth I would just Mig it. Flux core is not as good for metal finish work however. Unless you're a really good welder, but most people end up with a bunch of pinholes.

IMO i wouldnt use flux core for anything but just havin to mig weld outside.i hate that shit.ill use ducttape and jbweld b4 i use flux core lol

werd to that, I cant stand flux core either.

If you have someone that's badass with the Tig and badass with the Mig, I'd go Tig over Mig.
