do me a favor and please do not use dinky cheap hinges like that, take the time and get some beefy ones: but its your bed, you risk it if u wanna....

There pretty damn stong hinges man on my truck as you can see in the pic the hinge is the same width as the frame rail on the box. And they where the thickest gage at the store. Two winters ago I lifted the box full of snow to shovel it out and didn't twist the hinges so yes I would suggest using them.

Is there a bigger gap in between the bed and cab when this is done to prevent the bed from hitting the cab when going up and down?

If you place the hinges like in my pictures they will lift the box away and up. Its all about where you place the hinges so that it clears the cab.

Here's pic's of my hinges on my 90 mazda man. There just hinges that you can pic up from home depot. Its cheap and easy. I am re hinging it right now to tilt side ways on bags but this way in the pic's held up for many years. Hope this helps.

I'm no tilt bed hinge expert, but those don't appear to be very strong

get yourself some 1/2 pipe and some 3/8 round stock cut the pipe every 2" and slide them over the round stock this is how my boy does his hydralic tilt bed and that is a beefy ass hinge. weld every other one to the top and the rest to the bottom. never seen one break and i seen beds like 10 feet in the air.
no regrets . wa   +1y
