yea you can learn alot in the forums..until you learn it in the garage, dont downgrade peoples work..that guy said those hinges have been on that truck for like 3 years..seems to be outlasting alot of the other so called custom stuff ive seen.

There are a lot of things to consider when doing something like this.
not all trucks are the same. the gap between the cab and the bed varies. if the gap is close and you pivot to high your bed corner will hit the cab.
Same is true out back..if you pivot to far in or to high you run the risk of hitting the ground with your bumper or rollpan, not only messing up paint but stopping it from tilting higher.
I know a lot of 4x4 guys that have done the barn hinge thing..that fine they have all kinds of clearence, but it still looks funny. And you will be surprised how much your bed can move once it is up in the air like that. and physics says that a 200 pund bed laying flat weighs 5lbs at any given inch along the frame, but once you tilt it up all of it's force is on that on point and know it is componded by leverage...

Will it hold yes...we have seen that. Would I climb under it to work on the frame or bag...NO

And I think it is great that a 17 year old does his own work with his own money...that what I did! And am still doing. Nothing pisses off a rich kid more then when a home built ride beats their money mobile!

hey you want them to be strong so take the time and make them out of 1/2 pipe and 3/8 round stock very strong i have it on mine and you dont have to have a latch if your bed is heavy enough but it allways good to have a latch

yeah, i saw your truck at the endless show a little while ago...thats what got me in the mood to do this...i think your truck is freakin awsome,i just never did get any good pictures of the hinges though

and livin in alabama,i think i would need some sort of latch, the roads here r not the greatest!!!lol...im thinkin of using a hood latch to hold mine down, maybe with an electric solenoid(like a door popper or a door lock solenoid)but either wa ill have it going by this weekend...
