Well,

I have been around trucks all of my life and I am currently the owner of some "green iron" (Military Vehicles) and I really need a truck that will be enjoyable to drive and have the capacity to haul around parts and the occasional trailer.

I have spent the last 6 hours searching over the internet and have decided on a few requirements for the new "dually" purchase and thought I would swing by here to see if they could be tweaked or if you guys possibly knew of a good truck to purchase.

I am visiting Charleston, SC for the next 6 weeks and then I will be returning to Detroit, MI. I would really like to get a southern truck because the salt up in the North really eats up the older trucks.....

So, I picture this truck as a modified rat rod of sorts.

I am stuck on a crew cab 3+3 Chevrolet from 71 to 78. I would love to find one that is already lowered and bagged if possible. I would also like the truck to be a diesel if possible....I have a feeling that this will be the biggest trouble for finding one.

If I do purchase a truck down here in Charleston, it would have to be able to make the voyage back to Detroit fairly easily.....

I think that if I get a sound truck that is already laid out I will be able to stick with the gas engine for a bit until I can find a suitable donor engine...I truly would like this to be the last truck I have to buy for a really long time.

What do you guys think?

Attached is a pic of a truck I liked and a picture of my "green iron"

Thanks ahead of time for the advice and I would love to hear if you know of a truck for sale.

first off welcome to the site man. thats quite the beastly green machine u drive haha i like your plans you have for you future purchase. huge fan of the squares. well, your list of wants isnt completley out of the box. you have choices. fisrt off, your wanting a rather solid and sound body of a truck and thats not all to hard to find. the bit of work you made need to do is easily done and or parts are readily available for the most part. just like im sure you know, when you buy any vehicle let alone a truck thats been already customized, look that thing over with a fine tooth comb. you rarely know what your getting. check out the welds, if its bagged/bodied, shaved ect...check for cracks, check for leaks in motor, air system, check the underneath of truck, check the cab corners and rockers.. haha sorry you get point. just have that mental checklist ready. as far as the diesel goes... alot of us want to do that swap in the old trucks. i think its sick. i know some of those older trucks come with the 6.2 non turbo diesel trucks. i did see one with a banks kit on it. some guys get into swapping in the 6.5 turbo diesel. and then the wishful thinking combo swap is the duramax / allison combo. a few guys on here and other sites are perfecting the cummings swap in these trucks. its badass . so like anything, it comes down to time, money, patience, money, time , money, money, and time and wiring and hassle and wiring ect... haha you came to a great site man. alot of knowledgable guys here. dont be scurred to ask any questions. good luck with the search and dont be a stranger. by the way, i having been eyeing up a 1980 chevy crewcab dually, white, nice truck. its in michigan on craigslist. maybe check it out man. and i know what you mean about finding the cleaner trucks up here due to the weather. o there up here. thats the fun part. its a challenge finding em. lata on

killer deal, I love the big green truck, is a beast to drive. Lots of fun. I'm sitting here thinking that I may have a better chance of getting a diesel if I get a little bit newer year model... I'm killin myself over the diesel engine. I have my eye on a centrifuge that I plan on producing veggie oil as a fuel or motor oil as black fuel. There's a guy that I know who makes an awesome centrifuge. Google wolverine technologies llc, he sells military truck parts and I figured I'd give it a try...if all else fails I'll have a free source of fuel for the big green truck.

I can't wait to get back to the D and meet you guys.

Well,

I have been calling around in a 200 mile radius and I havent found anything too great. I found a 3+3 Dually square for 2,000 but it is fairly rough....

Today I called on a 2004 f350 wth only 88K on the clock and in white with the lemon of a 6.0 Liter in it....guess what....sold also.

I am stuck on getting into this scene Ford or Chevy, and even if I have to get a gas truck to tide me over until I can afford a Cummins conversion....I may just do that if the truck is really sound and in a color scheme I like.

I have found some killer sites that sell bagged trucks, im surprised at how little they are going for.

Hopefully I will find one that is layed out sipping diesel in a flat black or all white.....minus the hideous red interior that was popular back in the 80's.

Back to craigslist for me!
