I have a jbl 1200.1 amp. It is running two alpine type s 12s. well the amp was working fine and then all of a sudden it quits producing sound. the light is green and the red light is on as well wich it shouldnt be on. If I remove the rca's the amp gose back to green only. But when I replace the rca's it gose back to booth green and red...Whats the problem.

mine did the same thing and they told me it was blown

try dis-connecting your subs and see if the protection light is still on... if it goes off. hook one sub up at a time. you might have a blown v-coil in one of your subs. or use a mulit-meter a check your subs. that 1200.1 is alot of power for a pair of type s subs

Jump another set of rca's over the seats and see what happens. If it does the same thing it's your amp.

ok so I took the subs out and hooked each one up seperate and it still did the same thing. the subs dont seem to be blown or anything. Then all of a sudden it went back to normal mode. But now for some reason one of the subs dosent sound right its not as tight as bass as the other...is it shot?

PROBABLY OVERHEATED ONE OF THE VOICE COILS

What you did is problably blown a channel in your amp. If you said that one sub is not hitting as hard, but they both are working fine, plus the fact that your RCA work somewhat then it's a channel. To really test to see if you have blown a voice coil on your sub, here is the sure fire way to test. Take a 9volt battery and how each individual voice coil up one at a time and then press the positive and neg to the battery, they should pop if they don't then you know what happened. Also the center of your sub, The little hole in the middle of the magnet, Smell it if it smells burnt then another way to tell it's your voicecoil. One more then did you have that amp brided if so the JBL are not bridgeable amps, you have to run thoughs in stereo.
