Alma's Hospital trip. She is doing really good!Sept. 22,2006I am going into Mayo Hospital today for repair and maintenance. I have had a heart problem for several years and had hoped to prolong this until the end of the season.
It didn't happen. So, today, I am getting a new Aorta Valve (cute little thingy made from a cow)and my main artery repaired (this is the same problem that killed John Ritter last year)
According to my doctors, survival rate is 98% which is good odds. However, anytime you go into surgery and have your heart shut down for a while, its not going to be fun. The alternative is not acceptable.
So, God willing, I will see you all on line in a few weeks. I understand I will be in ICU for a couple of days and homebound for about 8 weeks.
I want everyone to know that if something should go wrong, it's been one hell of a trip and it has been a pleasure knowing each of you. Thats called protecting my butt..I will see you on line in a little while.
But if you have a little prayer handy, now would be the time to use it.Oct. 3,2006 (from her duaghter Carla)Not much to be said right now. I was waiting until she was released to the rehab center to update you on her condition. She should be released from the hospital any day now. She is gaining strength, walking a bit. She is still in some pain, but she is off the good stuff and using tylenol now. She was supposed to be released Saturday, but an infection in one of her hands from where the IV went in delayed it. The last few days have been waiting for the medication to take effect. Now she is further delayed by nausea. I think it's a combination of her allergies and the meds they have her on. Throwing up is not fun, even less when you are being held together with surgical thread. I will let you know more when I know more. In the meantime, she is bored stiff.Alma Gates Administrator Member # 7
