I've got my 88 bagged.

Its a breeze. This was my first truck I ever built so I kind of just guessed as I went along, However I'm goin to change some things around right now so its off the road.

Building your own bag cups are easy as pie. As far as the rear end, it does sit alittle wider but you should be able to do a 9 inch wheel at least for the rear. I'd say 9.5 inches wide with a little fender mods a 10. Fittin wheels all has to do with the right offset, and so forth. You can put almost anything on a car or truck with the right offset for what your attempting to do. In the front to get the truck to lay flat, you'll need drop spindles for sure. I haven't gotten mine yet, and the back tucks hard, but the front not so much. You'll lay your crossmember under the engine, no biggie. And if ur engine is tip top, no grease leaks or junk underneath the crossmemeber sparks nicely in the moonlight. For a v8 you might need to change to a different oilpick up and pan, so you don't leave it on the ground and wreck everything.

Here's mine, work in progress, hope the pics can be of some help.

Goodluck, and hopefully you go through with it. I don't want to see you ditch that for a S-10 project because everything can be store bought.. BOOO.... Real rides are built not bought.

to lay full rail you will have to Z the front end. From what i have been told as far as wheels, a 20x8.5 with about 6.5 inches of backspacing will tuck on the back of a bagged dakota without shortening the axle. An 87-96 that is.

let me go ahead and tell you. sell it. you'll never finish it once you've started, lol. ive had mine torn down for almost 7 years now and im no where near finishing it. things you need to know about the front if you are going with big wheels...
1. you have to notch the frame for the tie rod ends.
2. the lower control arm mounts will have to be notched so you can get more travel when the truck is laid out. (if you take the lower control arms off you'll see exactly what im talking about, it will be right in front of you.
3. wheel wells in the front. see ya. they bolt in but you may have to do some more cutting.
4. wheels. youre pretty much stuck with front wheel drive off set wheels. you can get a wheel with a small lip but that is about all.

as for the rear, a regular bag job will do the trick. when you get the wheels make sure that dont hit the inside of the outter panel of the bed or your going to burn through your paint. oh yeah watch out for the gas take too. its plastic and is even with the bottom for the frame.

this is about all i can think of right now. if you have anymore questions just ask.

^^ Ohh ya I forgot to mention that gas tank issue. It does sit basically even with the frame, its not terrible, but the back of it hangs out, and will drag. I've got quite a few gashes in mine. Thats somewhat of an easy fix, fuel cell, or you can change the bracing and cut some of it out, redo the mount and have the tank hang a few inches higher, but you'll need to re inforce that brace it hangs on, and the one mounting point needs to stay were it is for the box.
