Can anybody help me out with the steps it takes to get the plastic pieces and dash out of an 88-98 chevy fullsize smoothed and ready for paint...Thanks guys.

180 sand, prime, 320 sand, prime, 320 sand, 600 sand, paint.

or just scuff it up real good, layin on some plastic adhesion promoter and about 3 coats of high build primer then sand it with some 600 and then shoot your paint.... WHOLE lot less time consuming

Thanks for the help...just one more question...which process would make it flawless?...because saving time is nice, but I don't want to lose quality...

do it dwights way. if you cut any corners it may look nice at first but the grain will probally swell back and show up.

i painted my dash the way i said 6 years ago and you cant see shit... looks as good as the day i painted it.

i sanded nearly all the grain out of my hoe's dash primeded it three times, sanding between coats, then single staged it. it wasnt satisfactory so i base/clearwed over the single stage and the grain still came back. My dash is black and does get hot but still, you will spend way more time pulling the dash back out and doing it again than you would if you took your time the first time and did it right. Remember the dash is a different type of plastic than all the other plastics.

now even tho the plastics are differnt is the same method used...bc I have the 98 door panels and noticed the difference in plastics...is there another method you use on the panels or is it the same?

prep the plastic, using fiberglass over the plastics then take your time

about the door panels. If they are 95 and up work truck panels (roll up window) they are the hard plastic like your pilar post plastics. they can be sanded and painted but if they have that vinyl type cover on them i beleive you have to strip the vinyl of. i have the vinyl door panels so i did the easy thing and dyed them.
