i read about it in a mini truckin mag and was wondering if anyone has done this? i know the hindges unscrew from the jeeps. what would it take to make them work on an 88 s-10?

what jeeps? if your talkin like a removable door jeep like a wrangler.. no way. jeep doors weigh like 10 lbs. your s10 doors weigh like 100. they will never hold. trust me, i own a jeep.

are you talking about the old cherokee's, like the 74-82 big 4 door SUV? Because thats essentially what most suicide door kits are patterned after.

I would guess that they used the hinges on a wrangler that mount the tailgate to the body. There is a strong resemblance with them to pre-fabricated suicide door hinges. Keep in mind these hinges must support the tailgate, as well as the tire rack. This can easily pass beyond 100lbs. Before i lowered my wrangler i had 35" mud tires on it while it was lifted, my wheel and tire combo weighed about 65 lbs with air in it, plus the weight of the tire mounting bracket, (another 20-30 lbs) and then the weight of the tailgate. I never had sagging issues. They held fast. Im sure they could be made to work if someone had the technical know-how.

no i mean jeep cherroke doors. dad has one and they just bolt in. could i just drill the wholes and bolt them in. then change the striker around. would this be easier then welding the kits in? the ones off the tailgate sounds good if it would work. anyone every done this? do they just bolt on to.

Im sure that regardless of how you mounted them, youd want to weld them to prevent them from sagging. Im not a welder nor an indepth metal fabricator, but id would guess the weight alone, would take its toll on the body where the hinge was mounted. Not to mention opening and closing the door and normal wear it would recieve. One of the more experienced builders here could answer better, but i would say youd definitley want a weld bead if for nothing more than assurance it wouldnt sag.

no matter what you do your gonna have to do some re-inforcing or else your gonna have a set of saggy suicide doors
