well guys, i hate to burst your bubble, but expecting to get a 5000 dollar paint job, on a 500 dollar budget is going to really dissapoint yourself. i suggest you save up and look into a 2-3000 dollar job, and you will be much happier down the road.....My first paint job, was about the normal 600 dollar range, and about 5 months later, it started to peel, crack, and yellow haze ..... and it cost me more money later on to fix the old stuff, and then repaint then if i would have just saved up, second job or what ever, to do it right the first time! Now i am a preffesional painter by trade, and wouldnt believe the stuff i have to fix to make some one happy and put them in the poor house lol!

It's all about the prep work. That's the time-consuming part of most all paint jobs. You can spend weeks getting the body straight, primering, sanding for paint, and taping, yet once in the booth it won't take maybe a day to get color and clear on it, being a single color paintjob. Then you have your colorsand and buffing afterwards which is key no matter how slick you can lay down clearcoat (to me). If you plan on doing this yourself I'd suggest research all over the net... maybe they sell books, even find local people and ask around I'm not sure. I was lucky enough to take 3 years of auto body at a nice school with a super cool instructor. Maybe check into that, also. It was a high school tech program so it was free. I learned most all I needed to know in there.

I am not too fond of the Dimension off brand of Sherwin Williams, I tried that and it seemed like it took more coats to cover then the Sherwin Williams real brand. I don't really recommend the Dimension paint, but that's just me.

I have a book ( advanced custom painting techniques.) by Jon Kosmoski you can get it on the House of color websight, I have read it front to back and i feel more than confident to paint a car now. it spacificly tells you how to set the spray, the pattern the coverage, the amount to lay. The items required to get a clean spray from the gun. then it gets more technical with flames and graphics. all the way back down to all the prep and sanding. I would say its a must before you start painting.

Im sure that helps a lot but the only way you get better is to pretty much just grab a gun and start spraying. You learn from your mistakes.
