if you are taking the time to post for sincere help from fellow "customizers" on this site and want to take a class to better your skills it's obviously a passion of yours just like the rest of us. nothing but time and experience can teach you how to do the things that you want to do and that includes plenty of f**k-ups along the way. even experienced fabricators throw down a bead that looks like a blind, 12 year old, quadraplegic did it from time to time. if you are dedicated you'll be fine. creativity is at least partially learned and will grow as your skills do.

i took auto body in high school, it gave me the basics. same with the welding class tought me how to perfect my welding. didnt really teach me that i "knew it all" BUT these were local classes. the big schools prob teach that.

yeah man. thats basically it, they give you a certificate and tell you "you can work anywhere you want now kid" kinda bullshit they do that to guys comin outta school. i met a 60 year welder who told me he never stopped learning new stuff for over 40 years

most welding classes start you out w/ basics on a oxy/actlyne torch, then stick welding then mig welding. usually tig is after all that and is usually a seperate class. i would do that. learning tig will be the best experience after you learn the basics IMO. then go jump into the autobody portion if your not sure on any of that.

Yea, i didn't read the fine print mig welding does have a prerec. I did take a ffa class back in high school, which was about 16 years ago that taught me a little about welding.
