etching primer is a waste of money if your going to just spray epoxy over it.

alright, so say I go sherwin williams, do the body work and all, go and get some normal primer tinted to my liking....are you guys with primered trucks having moisture/metal problems or not?

Check this out.http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/ksflatz.aspxLots of color choices, cheap, looks like primer, but its single stage paint and can be painted over.

if your to bare metel and u need to do body work to it grind it down do your body work then use a polyeter primer like mx245 or mx243 they are both polyester frimers and u can shoot right over bare metel they are ppg brand omni

do not use etch primer under epoxy primer. Unless specified by the manufacturer. The best thing to do it go to bare metal the coat it with epxoy the filler will hold to the epxoy much better than 2k urethane. after your filler work is done move on to poly primer then epxoy again as a sealer your basecoat with adhere better to the epoxy also. This is not to say that use etch primer then 2k urethane isn't a good way to do it also but the epoxy is just better the urethane primer and if you use polyester primer you must do it over etch primer or epoxy and it must be sealed, or water will soak into it causing rust and paint failure. Two good affordable sources for epxoy and urethane primer are kirker and Southern Poloyuretanes(spi). As for polyester primer I like feather fill and slick sand.

Epoxy primer is old...no offense to anybody...if you are down to bare metal..do your metal work and body filer then etch prime it..then put 2k primer surfacer...ive heard and seen alot of bad things with epoxy..oh and also try and keep the etch primer off of your body filler cause the acid will eat into the body filler

epoxy is old? ive always been told that etching is "old". Also, if I am going to do body work over metal, then etch....that defeats the point as you say it will eat the filler. Also, if i etch THEN do body work, same deal.

yea epoxy primer is old school...the metal wont rust under the body filler unless you drill holes in your metal like they did back in the day ...and you dont put etch primer on heavy you put on enough to just get it covered and the put your 2k surfacer on it...it ok to get it on the filler but you dont put it on heavy..ive never had it eat into the filler but thats what ive always been told
