my understanding that rolliung back the odm. is considered fraud and is illegal.if you do roll it back keep record of what milage you did it at so that if you do sell it you can let the new buyer aware.do not use a drill it spins to fast and will tear up the gears in the odm.and the numbers will not be strait as they star to move around the numbers will look like a wave 1 number to low the next to high

i could understand if you looked at KBB and used the mileage on there and sold it but if its the price you think its worth from all the money you put in it then i just dont see how its fraud

my truck you can go in reverse and it rolls back... if i had the money for gas i would do that lol but i have thought about it to. the thing i dont understand is. lets say you put a new engine, tranny, rear end, new suspesion, pretty a brand damn new truck how would that be against the law? If you told the person that you were saleing it to (if you sold it) That the truck has *** *** *** many miles on it before you redone everything and what the odometer reads now is with all new stuff. how is that against the law?

This is why I want to roll it back, I've replaced or rebuilt everything.

sorry, I said VIN but meant odo. and I said 6 but meant 5.

So again, if you have a 5 digit odo the state doesnt care what your mileage is once you hit 100k because there is no way to verify it. The title will say "exceeds mechanical limits" and no not the mechanical limits of the truck but the mechanical limits of the odo. If you have 120k listed as the mileage it doesnt matter because the odo cant verify that without a 6th digit.

So clif notes: do what you want.

and I know all this because I went through it about 6 months ago when I sold a 53 Mercedes for a friend and it only had a 5 digit odo, we tried getting the low 28k mileage verify and the state told us to get porked.

Okay. Yeah mine only has the 5 slots. Its been rolled over once already, it just says 98,182 or something like that. And according to CarFax the truck has 198k on it. But on my Pinkslip it says 88k I think.

Hey Seth, when I put the new engine in I also put all new gauges in, took photos of the old one showing mileage & new one. Haven't had any problems at smog, reg. is just mail in.

I think you need to give up all of this and just sell me the truck.
Good luck and I have never heard of someone rolling an odo forward, new to me lol.

if it reads 98000 then technically you would be rolling the odometer forward. making it look like there are 2000 more miles on it than there are.

Okay, just let me finish wiring it. Then you can have it for a $5 golden arch card.
