If you want to learn fab, don't buy an S10. Get a Mazda or Nissan or Toyota like Tyler said. They all have similar suspension, not too hard ot bag, but you'll have to actually make stuff to get them to lay. Thats probably the best way to learn.

what do you guys think about the 88-98 silverados because i have a 98 siverado that i drive every day and i dont want to just start cutting im just nervous to screw up my daily driver. Are they hard to bag compared to a mini like an s-10 and if i wanted to bag my truck would i be good just buying a kit or would i need more than the kits come with?

I would buy something strictly to bag, don't cut up a daily. A lot of the things you'll be doing could potentially destroy a truck. Thats the way I looked at it. I went out and bought a $400 POS truck just to bag it. Now its bagged and bodydropped and it doesn't look so bad. And I learned a lot doing it.

A word of caution, you will get balls deep in a project fast. You can quickly spend way more money than you originally planned. So figure out about what you want to spend, then double it. You'll change your mind a lot most likely.

I know I more than tripled what I wanted to spend on the motor alone and now im looking at building a frame. so I would more like triple it haha.

DJ, both Seth and Grant are totally right about costs building up fast. My mazda was $800, motor was $500, and the front suspension was ???? I lost count a while ago. So be ready for that, but it is a great way to just teach yourself, I'm in the same boat with this as my first project as well. Its really not that scary.

I would say an s10 or a 73-87 c10. they are all over the place. the way I looked at is, if I am body dropping a c10 cab and I fuck it up. I can go the junk yard and get another cab because there is so many of them. by the time you have a full body dropped c10 youve already done 3 or 4.

Do a lot of research, surf the forums, visit fab shops, and like everyone else said buy a cheap truck and just start ripping it down. Oh and 1 other thing stay away from the I-beams. haha
