It used to be that way here with commercial plates in the 80s. We had a jeep that had 20 inches in lift and 44s and wouldnt pass inspection. thats what we did. Now everything has to be inspected. My Diesel F550 has a 25000 pound tag and I have a federal inspection on it. There are shops that just scrape and replace the stickers. Thats who you need

Theres a guy in wake county that will pass it no matter what. He hooks up all of us mini truckers. I have no windshield wipers, missing all my resvoirs,no air bags along with no dash,no mirrors and I am fine.

it just made it into the over 10 years old class. anything here in NC over 10 years old only needs a safety inspection.

so, just make sure all lights, horn, wipers and such work and glass is good and clearly visable through. oh yeah, good tires too.

I have a 99 ranger and I removed my passenger side airbag and my ABS light is on, It will pas inspection with it, mine does, if your check engine light is on then it might not

as long as it passes safety inspection and the check engine light isn't on you should be fine, but don't unhook the light the OBD computer will still fail you IT HAS TO BE TURNED OFF PROPERLY.
FIND AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND ASK HIM WHAT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO.
GOOD LUCK

Here's a bit of info on north carolina inspections from someone who currently has an inspection license...me!

air bag light, srs light, abs light, any other lights EXCEPT the check engine light will not cause you to fail inspection. check engine light is the only light to worry about.

there is NO 10 year emissions inspection rule, anything 96 and newer gets emissions inspection (depending on what county you are in). however anything over 35 years old does not get an inspection at all.

disconnecting the check engine light bulb will not help. if there is a code and the light is not on, the inspection machine will see the code and automatically fail the inspection

an inspecter shouldn't fail a vehicle for a missing air bag, but it is against the law to remove one, so an anal inspecter may fail you just cause...

windshield wipers must work and blades be in decent condition and turn signals must work. thats part of the safety inspection.

you DO NOT have to get an inspection in the ocunty you live in but...if your truck is registered in an emissions county, you have to have it inspected in an emissions county.(can't take it to a non-emissions county simply because they wouldn't have an emissions inspection machine).

hope this helps, any more questions just ask.
