hey i just got some money to throw into m truck and i was tryiing to figure out how high to weld the notch in. i know that its got to be centerd over the axle but i cant figure out how high or low to weld it in i know i can weld it in all the way up but id rather do it right and take the measurements.... its on jackstands right now and i thought u can figure it out by measuring from the frame to the ground then measure from the top of the axle to the bottum of the notch using the first measurement .,,,,,,ANY HELP WOULD BE SICK AND I NEED IT ASAP PLEASE THANKS ALOT

with the truck level on jack stands, the BOTTOM of the notch needs to be 1/2(OD of the tire) + 1/2(OD of axle tube) + height off the ground. i would add .5-1" as a fudge factor. also, if you plan on upgrading to larger rims and tires, take that into account now.

well if your using a toyo tire of some sort the outside dimension of a 40 series is about 28 inches or so and a 35 is about 27 inches or so

so what should i make the notch 28 in + 4in for the axle then 1in for fudge factor?????
thanks

28 inch tire 14 inches is half. 3 inch axle tube. 1.5 is half add that to make 15.5 notch from ground to bottom of notch. I would go with 16.

Hell no thats wrong. That 28 is the overall hieght of a average 20 tire like a 255/35

yea but where is the truck on the jack stands that will play a factor wont it...

measure the distance from the bottom of the frame to the ground under the cab if the truck is level and add 16 inches to that. But i dont like giving advice like that cause i dont really like doing stuff that way.

not to be a dick dude, but did you read my post fully?

1/2(tire OD) + 1/2(axle OD) + height off ground = height from ground the BOTTOM of the notch needs to be.

make sure the truck is LEVEL, if not, you may over or under notch, depending how it sits.
