Okay so for the past 2 months I've been struggling to get my truck smogged so I can actually drive it. I've gotten 3 extensions so far and might have to get another one in about a week.

This is the problem. The carb is dumping too much fuel into the motor. Its a visible amount above idle. So I rechecked all the vacuum lines (ran all new ones) and they were all fine. So I rebuilt the carb, and it still did the same thing, not quite as bad, but still did it. I called LC engineering, and they said it may be cracked and to try a different carb. So I bought a new carburetor. I just got done installing it, and it still dumps a good amount of fuel. It also has trouble idling now. If you let it below 1500 rpm it dies fast. Not like a stutter and puff out, just dead. I let it warm up for about 20 minutes, still the same. I can't even drive it like this. I checked all the vacuum lines to the book again, and everything seems fine. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

I took it around the block just now, and it sputters bad and won't stop. Doesnt do it in neutral but in any gear it sputters and jumps pretty bad.

Wish I had more ways of helping bro, I am not sure minus taking it to a place that specializes in Toyotas. Good luck and back to the top it goes.
All else fails I will give you a year subscription to MT magazine for it. lol

I'd love to take it to a place that specializes in Toyotas. But I cannot afford it. I've spent os much trying to get it to smog I'm currently in the hole.

get the truck running then spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb and so on to see if it revs or dies from the cleaner being sprayed around it, if it does try to pin point where it is sucking the cleaner in. I did this to mine and found a vacuum leak around the base of the carb and the intake. I am also running a weber but this works for all carbs. also spray the vacuum hoses. Check your float too, to make sure it isnt sticking or may have a hole in it causing the carb to load up. Are you still running the mechanical fuel pump???

Alright, you said you have a fuel regulator on your inlet line...how low is it set? Do you have a fuel return line on the carb allowing the excess fuel to be delivered back to the fuel tank? Make sure the bowl vent is not plugged...it allows pressure to build and pour excess fuel into the venturis. If your truck is sputtering, it sounds like the air/fuel is not adjusted properly. Remember, just turn them both all the way in, not tight. Turn them both back out 3/4 turn. Check. And then 1/4 turns from then out. If it sounds like it's choking, it's probably not getting enough air. If it studders, give it more fuel. Let me know...hell, call me if you need. 541-951-7266/cell

I've got some nasty sealant on the gaskets at the base of the carb, I doubt theres a leak, but I'll try you suggestion when I get a friend over. I can't keep the truck running and look under the hood at the same time. The carb I have is brand new, so nothing should be wrong with it. I bucked up and bought a NEW carb rather than just a rebuild.

I'm still running the stock mechanical fuel pump. I hear theres no way for them to go defective and pump too much fuel, they will jut stop working.

I had the regulator on, adjusted to 1 PSI. It didn't make a difference. I have a return line. All the fuel lines are new, nothing is clogged.

As for the adjustment, I wish I could do that. But the carbs are not adjustable. They have one screw, to adjust high idle mixture. Thats it.

You should also be using a low pressure, high volume fuel pump. I never asked what you were running...stock?

At 1psi you reduce volume too much. Do you have a diagram for the carb your running?

I'm running the stock mechanical pump. The truck was still getting too much fuel down at 1 PSI. It started sputtering when I T'd the extra line into the into the return line to try to reduce the amount of fuel going into the carb. I figured it wasnt gettign enough fuel, but it still does it without the regulator on it. And it will rev fine without a load, but when you try to drive it, it wants to cut otu and die.
