What size 110? Ive just got an hobart handler 145 and it works fine. You have to go slower and it dosnt have the duty cycle like a 220, but it gets the job done. I dont weld anything bigger than 1/4 in. with it.

does it need to be gas assisted

gas YES.....w/o looks like ass.....i also have a 110 and its done just fine....as noted. i also dont weld anything over 1/4 inch. anything under you should get good penitration depending on the welder

It helps to preheat the metal to get the best penetration when using a 110 on 1/4. But it can get the job done.

i know many people that use gas with a good 110v welder and they dont have any problems. but i went and got the millermatic 210 (220-230v) weld to be safe. the millermattic 175 is basicaly the same thing just packaged different.
