From what I've read, using light coats of primer works pretty good, I couldn't find a thread with step by step, but did find some real shiny/smooth MDF boxes.

if it was me seth, even if you could paint mdf i would put a light coat of resin over it as a protector. mdf corners tend to be pretty in my book. i would skim coat in resin and then block and skim coat with bondo as neeeded.

All my fiberglass work is over mdf I tryed leaving some bare mdf and it was just to much of a diff then the stuff that had resin so all my mdf has any were from 2 to 4 coats of resin then sanded then skim coated with evercoat glazeing putty.

Try to find a boat repair place they usualy have it by the 5 gallon buckets. If you only need a little bit I get the bondo brand from a parts store.

We Sand all the pieces smooth with 320 and the use a good urethane primer and block and sand it seal it and then paint. Try select products to by resign stay away from the elmers brand donesnt ever dry for shit for me. If you have to use BONDO brand fiberglass resign. Heres a pic of a charger we did the floor is a peice of 3/4 mdf. all we did was prime it and paint.
