I was on my way home tonight from work, and my truck just cut off on me right down the road from my house. Now it won't crank back up. BTW It's a 93 ecsb with 305. As much as I don't want to take the bed off, I am hoping it's the fuel pump, and nothing else. anyone else know what it might could be. I know of a few things, but what's the easiest to start with? the relay?

CHECK THE ALTERNATOR MAYBE NOT ENOUGHT JUICE TO CRANK OR COULD BE FUEL PUMP DOES IT TURN OVER

Turn the switch to "on" and see if you can hear the fuel pump wine? If you can then that rules your fuel pump out. My suburban did the same thing and it was the pick up coil in the distributor. But, there is numerous things that it could be.

ok, now I just went out there, and the bitch cranked right up.. SO, what would cause it to cut off on me, and then 9 hours later it cranks and runs fine?

my guess is that it would still be the fuel pump. chevys are infamous for fuel pumps takin a shit

Mine did that to me about 2 years ago and it ended up being the pick up coil as well. It just doesn't get to spark after so much wear. That's a quick and easy fix.

I know it may sound stupid but make sure the gas gauge isn't broke and there is gas in the tank. It hapenned to me and I thought it was the pump until I knocked on the tank and it was empty when the gauge read half full.

Im thinking that it might be the pickup coil or the fuel pump. If the pump is working, I would bet on the pickup coil.

everything works fine now. I went out this morning and it cranked up fine. I rolled it to a stop in front of my house last night when it died. I was that close. I knew it had gas, cuz I stopped and got some on the way to work yesterday, and I only work 5 miles from my house. When it died, the engine shut off, radio was still blaring some CHEVELLE, ligths were all still on and everything. Just the engine died, and it wouldn't start, but now it does.

and the pickup coil would cause it to die and then 9 hours later, start fine? what and where is the pickup coil? and how do I change one?
