i do HVAC for a living, im an installer. today, on the job i cut the piss out of my left forearm. some duct pipe that had been previously cut down to about 2ft or so was standing upright and i bent down to pick something up next to it and the top edge fileted(sp)(i hate misspelling shit!) my forearm wide ass open! its a clean straight cut about 4"-5" long at a angle on the back of my left forearm. it was 21 stitches (4 stitches that dissolve and 17 regulars) im 23 and never had a cut deep enough for stitches or broken a bone or anything until today, just a new experience wanted to know if anybody else has cut the piss out of themselves and had a story behind it. stitches didnt hurt to get at all, i think i have a decent pain tolerance, but they didnt hurt a bit! just figured theyd be a little more painful! storys anyone?

I am a press brake operator by trade. I got my hand smashed up a against some thin steel, probably 20 gauge or so. I knew right away it was deep across my knuckles and fingers but had to look anyway. When I spread it open and moved my fingers you could see all the inside pieces of my knuckle moving.

I have seen 3 other guys get caught in the actual press brake though. One only split the bone of his index finger. The other one broke both his index fingers and turned his fingers to hamburger. The last guy got the tip of his thumb cut clean off. The first two guys healed up fully. The last guy's thumb was way to far gone to be sewed back on.

I used to be a meat cutter and a woman came in one Sunday morning wanting some thin T-Bones and I told her we had some in the counter she told me she wanted me to CUT HER SOME! I said okay and went in the back I had a little piece of short loin laying there, I picked it up and cut one then when I started to cut the second one the blade on the saw caught the bone wrong and spun the short loin and spun my hand into the blade of the saw! I didn't feel it cut me but I knew it had got me. I pulled my glove off and I had sliced my finger from beside my fingernail around my finger down to the bone at the first joint. Getting the shots before the stiches hurt more than the cut or the stiches. It only took 7 stiches but I bet he gave me 12 shots in the cut in my finger. I cut meat for 11 years and that was the only time I cut myself with the saw.

Jason, those numbing shots they give you before the stitches is really all the pain i had too! they really only feel like a badass bee/wasp stung you. didnt really hurt but it was just enough to grit your teeth a little. on me he loaded up two syringes full of that numbing stuff and used 1 1/2 on me. id guess he stuck me 25-30 times with them. there was one little spot that wouldnt numb, causing all the extra shots!

worst pain i have ever experienced was skinning my shin on one of the steps running full bore in my friends pool. Its been close to 10 years and you can see the hole were I ripped the skin off. The pain was so intense I almost passed out. Ive had broken bones and bruised ribs and none of that comes close.

all my cuts i have had, have been under anesthesia (speliing??). literally had surgeries from head to toe. as far as pain, the shit i went through AFTER my last surgery was hell. I wouldn't do it again to save my life. 12 inch scar on my knee, 5 incher on my shin, and then actually recut the one on my knee for the final surgery, as it was cut that way from my second. It sucks still.

i run a press brake at work sometimes, and you gotta be a moron to smash your fingers!!! the only time i get hurt is when im tired and dont pay attention when the brake lets loose of a 90 degree bend and it comes down with your hand on the rest infront...

andrew, you must run it with 2 people, ive heard stories of other shops having a guy loading the brake get hurt because the guy pressing the pedal wasnt paying attention...

The guy that lost his thumb was doing a 2 man job. It was a 12 foot long Escalade door skin for a limo. You're right, neither guy was paying attention.

The other two were doing some repetitive/boring small parts and are pretty much dumb shits for not paying attention.

I got my thumb caught once between the ram on the brake and a piece of 18 ga. steel channel. On the 2nd bend I didn't get my thumb out of the way and the other side came up and caught me. In my defense I was having real bad migraines and was fixing to go home as soon as I got the job done anyway.

try being like 20 feet in the air 4th gear tapped and catch a gust of wind and slam the hard packed dirt overshooting a landing and then having your 250 lb dirtbike slam on top of you snapping your femur is the worste pain you will ever feel lol
