1. What kind of overlap is needed when spraying a metallic???

2.Does each coat of base need a flash time, or does that only matter when your moving on to clear?

3. The specs for the clear say 3 light to medium coats.....can i spray more? I only ask because i have never cut a fresh paint job and i want to have enough coverage when doing so.

Thanks in advance.

the over lap is about 75% and you will want to do a orintation coat as you last coat let the base flash off to a mat finish on every coat them about 25 min before clear and on the clear put 3 wet coats depending on the type of clear

what do you mean by "orintation coat" ??

the overlap you need is 50%, by the time you go around the whole vehicle the panel should be dry so put yr next coat on, when you move on to clear you want to let yr panels cure for about 30min to a hour because if not you will get solvent pop but that only happens if you bake it or use an oven. just make sure you clean clean clean i dont wanna stress this enough cause it will look like shit if not. remember that everything you dont clean off or fix you will see it the final clear. and for the clear just remember to leave 10- 15 min in between clear coats always,

if you just lay coat after coat of base you will get die back in the clear (when its dry it will not shine good)let you base flash on every coat good if you can tack it off then put anouther and the over lap is anywere from 50 to 75% i know this cuz i paint for a living and on avg make 75,000 to 100,000 a year so i thank i might have it down if you need help or any ? let me know

I'd only spray 2 maybe 3 coats..I like to spray a tacky coat..then 2 wet coats..then I let them ride..or I resand with 600 and reclear same way..car will turn out a lot deeper rather than spray ing 4 coats at once..

and mixing the clear w/ no reducer will make the clear alot thicker..it will also lead to more orange peel, but if you plan on cutting and buffing it..that might be the way to go..I teach high school autobody and I have the students mix the clear w/out reducer..I'd rather have orange peel than runs..orange peel is alot easier to buff..think about that if this is new to you

give it 50-75 percent overlap, hold the gun 4-6 inches away from the panels when sparying the base, bout 8-10 mins wait time between coats at 75 degrees ambient temperature...... 3 coats of clear will be plenty of room to cut and rub a few times..... i use 40 percent over lap on clear for spot in repairs on insurance work, kinda matches factoy orange peel, but on a complete, maybe a lil tighter...
