Thats the abs sensor your thinking of, like said before a Yota rearend would be the best choice.

who needs a speedo anyway

i'm not worried bout the speed sensor really it's all gonna be aftermarket gauges anyways. Any thoughts on having the wheels machined down?

speed sensor on the ranger is in the transmission if i remember correctly...

Dont machine the wheels down, There is good possability for someone screwing them up + ypu are compromising the structual integrity of the wheel. Basically the little amount you would gain from machining the wheels would not be worth it. I say yota rear. Oh and if you are going to go through with having a rearend shortened, I would find out if you could get an explorer rear with discs and have that narrowed. my .02

Explorer rears are just a tad shorter I looked into that before just not cost effective for my to buy a whole new rear then have it shortened too. The speed sensor is important if you have a automatic it tells the tranny when to shift. There is a sensor in the rear and inside the tranny on the turbine gear.
So james you are saying the a yota rear will bolt up to my ranger driveshaft?

I talked about this with James recently since I am planning on putting a yota rearend in my ranger.

From looking online, www.partsamerica.com, they show that the rear universal joint for my 1996 Extended Cab is the same part number as the universal for an 84-95 yota. Let me know if you try this and if the parts actually interchange. I am NOT 100% sure that it is a direct bolt up, this is based strictly upon the part numbers.

why not just shorten one side. If you look at your ranger rear end you will find that one axle is shorter than the other. Y not just use two of the short axels and narrow one side. Then just recenter the rear end and you are done. That way all everything is still ranger and bolts right up. Just a thought.
