its a stick shift. and yeah i know about optimas burning out. it wasnt the battery becuase i had it checked, same thing with the alternator. someone had told me today that there was a relay on the yotas that went bad over time and could cause the problem im having. where would the ignition switch and starter relays be located. ill start there.

It seems the starers fail a lot due to the internal contacts. New starters are pricey, you can get from Toyota the contacts for about $10,a lot better price than a new starter,or even a rebuilt & easy to change out!!

I have seen bad ignition switches do this before as well...

Check the connection of the power wire on the starter. If it is tight, tighten it a little more.

yeah gary(truck action) that was one of the things i was thinking about doing as well. getting a starter from toyota. all of mine were from autozone and the one i have on there now is from orieleys. i was gonna change the starter, ignition switch, and starter relay and see if that helped. if not then i dunno. patrick(siklife) i figured it was something electrical because when i try to start it, it wont crank or anything. i hear a click when i turn the key, but nothing else. but if i wait a while and try and start it again, it will start right up, it might start right up for a few days, and then same problem. i can push start it and run it for a while doing errands and such and it will be fine, and then after a while same problem. turn the key and nothing.

hmm, they could be right, other wise my only other guess from experince would be the wire on the battery isn't tightend enuff....

sounds to me like it may be your ignition did you splice it for your air ride if so also check that connection

well im picking up the truck today from the shop its been at. my buddy told me he could start it by jumping it from the starter. it wouldnt start any other way. so would this mean it is the starter? i plan on buying a new battery first, cause i think mine is dead since its been a few years since its been driven or started.
