like it says i am thinking about welding my old tail lights off of a 1957 car into my tailgate can you weld pot metal to sheet metal with a mig welder?

what kind of tail lights?? any pics??

You can just about weld ice cream to peanut butter with silly bronze. With silicon bronze rod, it's more like soldering then welding, so it can be done with a propane torch, but I don't think that a MIG will do what you need.

i kind of dont want to say what kind of lights until there on the truck, not to say that i will be the first but.. I have never even seen these tail light before "on any car." lets just say they are sick and very 50-60s era retro looking and there not caddy lights lol

will i need to use a #1 or #3 tip to do this and is there any other prep to do, like there is when you do lead working? thanks

I have a TIG, so I don't know how to set up a torch. silly bronze is not like lead or solder, it is hard. It's just that you don't actually melt the parent materials, you just get them hot enough to melt the silly bronze into the joint.

and it strong right?
bobogolfcart   +1y
where are you located max?

Silly bronze is pretty damn strong. I wouldn't build a cage with it (though some have) but it will be PLENTY strong to do what you need.

I am in Hemet, CA "the land of the dirt people" as Jonny O calls it.
