I work at a shop that restores classic Mercedes and we do a bunch of bumper parts that need to be chromed that are made of pot metal. Just be careful not to get it too hot or it will pretty much cave in and make the biggest damn hole you've ever seen. We use a propane torch and this stuff sort of like silver solder only its made for pot metal.

would this work better to fill in the gap in the bed of trucks where the rear fenders are welded on the bed? Like old Datsuns and Mazdas.

^^^I'm not sure about that. I know that Honda uses it to weld body seams on their cars, so I would have to assume that it would work.

you can get that silly bronze wire for your mig welder, you just need to switch the gas

you should be able to braze it also. but you can tig weld it, you just need the correct type of filler wire, and i am not really sure what type of material the filler wire is. i will let you know on monday

another option is a zinc product from Harris Products (JW Harris Welco) called Welco 52. It is a low temperature melting zinc based rod that melts at like 730 degrees. In comparison, Silicon Bronze melts at almost 1900 degrees. So if the piece is very thin I would opt for the #52. It won't be as strong as a repair, but plenty strong for a taillight housing It is meant for repairing pot metal( and brazing aluminum)and you don't need to get the base metal too hot to join it.
