IMO, it should be done the right way. The Nissan I fixed was done this way, and he said he had the studs sheared off on 2 separate occasions, and the wheel fell off. And apparently the 720 he had before was done the same way, and the driver side studs sheared off as well. Luckily he was never hurt, and it didn't happen on busy streets or on a freeway. But what if it did? Either way, the damage caused each time was well over $100.

Some people may have had better luck. But is your life really not worth the $100 to do it the right way? I think there are places where it is acceptable to be cheap, but in my eyes suspension components are not one of them.

Clint hit the nail on the head, do it right and you won't have to deal with the issues that Seth described. Remember that set of chevy take off wheels with the centres bored out will always fetch a couple bucks when you're ready to go 5 lug. There will always be someone in the situation your in now, looking to get rolling for cheap with future upgrades in mind.

Can anyone confirm the mazda bore to be 4.01 like clint said? Im just gonna bore the wheels out, i think i found a place that will do them for 35 a wheel, which is a good price to keep everything safe. Im thinkin about changin a couple of the lug studs on each wheel to the chevy ones so i can use the chevy lugnuts that will allow me to use the center caps correctly. Should i just change all of the studs on each wheel over to the chevy stuff or would i be ok with a couple only?

Thanks for everyones help!

And to confirm, the Z71 center caps DO NOT work on these wheels.

hey Tim. i had those same wheel on my mighty max what i did was take the wheels to a machine shop, the measured the back hubs. and bored the centers out to match now here is the cool part... i pushed out the black lugnut caps and got a 2 part epoxy/jb-weld and glued the centercap onto the wheel with the holes lined up to the lugnuts. it worked out great i never even had to remove the center caps to take off the wheel.

If you're going to swap studs, I would go all or none.
