I'm afraid that currently it's more like 90% of the shops give the other 10% a bad name. I'm very unimpressed with most of the work that I've been seeing lately.

i wouldn't waste your time with someone, who felt it was necessary to make a fake name, to critique others work on here, max. So back to topic, how many excuses have you guy's heard over the years, as to why your ride wasn't finished as you were told it should be?

Well, there was a time that I did send work out (misc machine work, basic mechanical work and the such) but I have paid so many people to fuck stuff up for me that I can't send anything out anymore (half the reason that I have do so much at my shop).

To this day my favorite excuse for crappy work was when I had the brake/CV/rearend adapter built for the Chevelle. I bought a chunk of 8" round 6061T-6 for the job (I don't remember the cost, but that stuff isn't cheap) and took it to the machinist and paid him the $550 he asked for and of course, the parts came back screwed up. When I took it back to him he said "oh yeah, my lathe was giving me problems, bring me some more material and I'll make you som new ones." Ok, you're gonna do it for free right? "Nope, it'll be $550 just like the first time."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

How do you charge someone to fix something that you screwed up in the first place?

Heres a question.. Are you allowed, by law, to remove your truck/car/bike/whatever from a shop without paying the final bill?

This is in the situation where the object was to be picked up, only to find out the work is horriable at best, and the shop stills demands they be paid in full. Do they have legal rights to your stuff, even if its been completed poorly or unsafe? I'm not talking about nitpicking shit either, I'm talking straight up horriable job, and the shop demanding to be paid if you want what's yours back.

How does one handle a situation like that?

Max you and a few others are not the norm it sounds like. If I ever have some money to get work done, I feel driving 10+ hours to get you to do my fab work would be money well spent even at $5.00 a gallon for diesel. Take care and keep up the awesome work.

I agree with Max here. Anything I send out, I guarantee. I know I don't do the best work around, but I try my best to put out the best quality I can, no matter what the job is. And if anything fails, or if there is an issue, I will make a point to drop anything to fix it.

I'm going to be putting an IRS in a car next month, and its an axle I pulled from a junkyard myself. If for some reason something is mechanically wrong with the axle, I will fix it on my dime, because I feel its my responsibility. I was the one that picked the axle, therefore I see it as my responsibility.

I also agree with outsourcing. I haven't been happy with anything I have outsourced. This forces me to learn some new things I didn't think I needed to. But I also make it a point not to try something new on someone elses vehicle. I will get comfortable with it on my own vehicles first, and I will tell someone if I am not comfortable performing a certain task.

dont you think that maybe the vehicles owner is partially responsible? or the scene in general? everybody wants to 1 up everyone at any cost, and i dont mean with money. the i dont care how it gets done as long as it gets done attitude.. the race to be the first with something may lead to bigger issues down the road?
