I think the problem also has to do with money......So many people want stuff done for so cheap. Everyone tries to jew you down. You cut someone a hellava deal, then they try to get you just a little lower. Then it gets to a point where your making $4 an hour working on someone's truck. By no means is that an excuse for shoddy work, cause it's not. But people need to realize that good work isn't cheap and cheap work isn't good. People buy a 40K truck and look for someone to body it for 3K. Then it gets fucked up and they want you to cut them a deal to fix it. It's got to end somewhere.....I just hope the state you live in doesn't try to end it first. Eventually someone's gonna get seriously hurt by one of these "Hacked" trucks and the state is gonna get involved. Then we'll all by trailering our trucks to shows.

Ive seen the sport fix itself and sustain itself for many years. people are starting to not tolerate bad work. People are also educating themselves more on whats right and whats not.

I may talk some smack but the scene in general is getting smarter.

I just prefer to do my own work. Hell Id machne the engine block and every part on my ride if I could.

Kind of off subject. If you check state laws on motor vehicles. Most states if not all of them have a law that you can not modify the stock appearance or performance of non off-road vehicles. Most states don't care because the police usually have better things to do. It can come to this one day though and with the more and more unsafe rides on the roads and the hack shops it is just adding fuel to the fire.

I fear it will only get worse due to the economy and costs going up across board! I will continue to do my own work and will take the blame if it is bad or good. Someday I will have saved enough money and have my dream truck or car done. Then maybe not, by then I should have had enough practice that I will do it myself. I would love to have Max do some work for me! Maybe someday.

I'm a little lost on what the economy, or in one of these mystery posters cases, divorce, have to do with a shop's work. You should have a baseline of good structure in your designs and bill to meet them. Hell alot of these people get back frames if that. So whats the economy have to do with cannibalized rides????Just like most graphix shops have a baseline rate then as you want more detail they charge more. Start the bid with basic notch and 1/4 line and go up. There is NO excuse for gaps in frames or bad engineering. Welds that make birdshit look good. Zero excuses. Non. If you can't at least produce a baseline product then no amount of money will correct it. And if the price is too low. New concept. Don't do the work then. This isn't a flea market or ebay its real life. I also fail to see how someone with a long rap sheet of theft and destruction can give advice on how to do it. That's just not right.

Max you rule. Keep doing it the right way. The right ones will follow. SSM is a site that has built up many a "fabber". Just because it looks sweet on the internet doesnt mean it is. Never ship off your ride to a shop you have never seen or at least seen their work IN PERSON. The control arm fiascos are a great example. Someone talks about making it. No one has gotten said arms yet everyone praises how great they are without one on the road. But hey maybe you'll get on the repayment list. Sure the parts never come and the payment doesnt get refunded but you are on a list. Note on that. PAY BY CREDIT CARD. After two - three months of not getting what was going to take a week do a charge back. It works. I've done it.

Just need more informed people. Because alot of shops in the scene are just built up by friends hopping online and saying "yeah this shop does killer work" when in reality its just him and his friends trying to pump of business with nothing to back it up.

hahahah as mentioned above with the control arms. i am a prime example.

about three months ago i ordered arms that everyone was screaming about on here. well i waited and waited and kept getting excuses. it was even pointed out that we hope they could keep up with the supply and demand. well now i am waiting for my money to be refunded, i hope that dont take as long. ahah. i wont mention the shop name, some of you may know what shop i speak of from the other forum but i only did that to point out a problem, not to talk shit.

The control arm thing is another thing i dont understand. If u are a full custom shop building rides with 2-3 people working how are u possibly gonna keep up with selling control arms? Especially when ur doing one off arms etc.... I have and will build arms for rides at the shop if they arent readily available from a big company but will never try and keep up with the demand of this industry as a whole by offering them mail order. If a business wants to offer arms i think thats what they should do is build arms and other parts and not try and build trucks too. Just my opinion what are others opinions on this???
