I have a opportunity to get a 4 door dually. Gas prices are really making me think. I think I would do it if theres a good motor swap I can do to make it get resonble millage and be able to tow. Its gonna have to tow 3 mini trucks from cali to Oklahoma and back as well as drive all over Cali Az. Or. and Wa. I already had a tow pig with nice 454 im not doing that again with these gas prices. So what kind of motor swaps are out there? What kind of mileage and towabilty would the truck get?

I vote Duramax, if you have an extra 15k laying around....lol Otherwise I would go for an older turbo Cummins. Pulling that much, you will be lucky to get 10-11mpg if you take it easy. Considering you probably get 4mpg with the 454, that would be a pretty good increase. There are adapters to match them with a TH400 or most other heavy trans. and there are several sites dedicated to these swaps. Diesel is going to be the most fuel efficient while giving you the power to pull 3 vehicles.

convert that thing to bio-diesel. my bro is thinking about buying a new diesel truck and converting it, its really not all that unreasonable of a price to get it done either, right around 2 gs, plus installation and lots of little things im sure. youll just smell like french fries goin down the road.

The problem he would face with WVO (waste vegtable oil) is capacity on long trips. the other thing is the rising cost (yes i said cost) of the oil. It is getting harder to find reliable free oil. Most places are charging for it now. However, you can pice together a kit for a lot less than 2k if you are serious about it.

true, i didnt think about the long travel aspect. ya, there are cheaper ways to do it, it just depends on which way you choose because there are different ways that it can be done. we already have used oil lined up should we choose to make the conversion.
