i would get a gear vendors overdrive and lower rear end gears before switching to diesel. you should be able to get decent mileage no problem with that set up. as good as any diesel would, probably better. plus diesel is about a dollar more per gallon than gas right now.

Throw a Cummins in it. Those motors are pretty damn bullet proof and have a long life. The older 12V motors are all mechanical and a few have been swapped into older square body chevy's. When the powerstroke in my dually kicks, it will be getting a cummins.

A Diesel while your pulling. any gas motor with 3 trucks and a trailer is gonna get 4-8ish mpg. Diesels can get 11-14. My crew cab got like 12ish pulling frenchys s-10 to cali. (75ish mph though)

If your not gonna tow much get a gas motor. A vortec 6.0, maybe even a 5.3, would be good.

Oh yeah, Forgotten Souls bitch!

seems like the tranny would be downshifting often with another overdrive gear and a 3 car hauler. those things are cool though

you can switch the overdrive on and off. im getting 12 with my carbed 454(thats also putting out around 500hp) with a 4l80e. all i did was switch from the 4.10 gears to a 3.42 gear and it upped my mpg by 2. i would imagine with a stock 454 and and extra overdrive to you would be able to get around 15-16 which would probably be around 10-11 pulling a trailer. and you wouldnt have the extra expense of buying another motor that burns more expensive fuel. idk everywhere else but for the price 20 gallons of diesel here you can buy 25 gallons of gas.

I was just thinking it would be hard to pull a heavy load at such low rpm's. It's true about the price of gas but diesel engines are far more efficient. I haven't done the math, but it seems like if you took 2 identical trucks 1 diesel and the other gas it would cost roughly the same to cover the same distance.

I hope that makes sense, I'm freakin tired.^^
