when i start my truck theres a tick, like a bent valvebut iv checked them, their fine, i had a worn out lifter and i thought that was it so i replaced it. but it still ticks why? oh its a 88 b2200, 2.2 litter

sounds like its bout to lock up to me check to see if u have any wore out bushings on ur crank from the piston ring arm....

Mine clicks when it is a quart low on oil. Some Mazdas have mechanical lifters that are adjustable. I couldn't tell you which ones do and don't though. I think that there is some good stuff on mazdabscene.com about the different lifters.

my lifters are in the rocker arms, you just pull them out by hand, idk if theyr called mechanical or not tho

My truck has hydraulic valve lifters, and used to get this tick.

You need to replace the faulty lifter (s)


When I did, it was like I had a brand new engine in there!

it comes down to prolly just the lifters. you can check the rods and such but its the lifters im sure. replace them all. i know they arent cheap but thats how you fix it.

small exhaust leak at the exhaust manfold?????

yeah an exhaust leak DOES sound a bit similar. I got that at the moment.
Cover your tailpiple and have someone else locate the leak, and maybe weld that sucker up!
