What brands though are good?

Ebays going to probably have alot of those cheap ones that will not be what your really after if you want quality.

We have a wide angle sigma for our Canon 40d. It was about 600.

cheap & good lens usually don't go together

i'm not sure what lenses you have already and how wide you want to go, but the 18-55mm kit lens is a pretty wide lens. Other than that you can get a 10-22mm or something, or a prime wide angle but no matter what you're going to be spending a good chunk of change

just stay away from any type of lens that screws or clips on to the front of your main lens.

Canon, Sigma, Tamron are all decent brands of lenses. There are some others but like i said, they get really expensive

Yea i have the lense that came with the camera then i have a sigma alfa lense that is a high zoom telephoto.

The canon EF-S 10-22mm will probably be the best investment for you if you want to go to a super wide angle lens. you will definitely get some fish eye distortion but it'll really open up what types of photos you can take

wow those are some expensive sons of bitches.

thats abot what my sigma cost me.
