My wife has owned hers for the last 4.5years, and its pushin 200,000miles and still runs strong and gets great gas mileage. I just pulled the motor out to detail paint and to replace the rear main seal and an entire gasket kit is only like $150, and an overhaul kit is only a couple hundred.
As for bagging one, they're no s-10 but their not to hard.

ok i just checked my stock here at work and the head gasket set is only 100 bucks. thats the head gasket and all the gaskets above the head... you need to shop around..

I paid $75 for just the head gasket, thats expensive in my books. $100 for all the gaskets above the head....whats that, Valve cover, and Headgasket. Is there other gaskets im missing.

Above the head would also typically include intake, exhaust and thermostat gaskets as well I believe, possibly fuel pump too if its carbed.

i've had some problems recently with mine. in the past year i've put over $1000 in repairs and fixes to keep it running. but i love it! isuzus are my favorite trucks to see laid out. i think if you get one and rebuild the engine it should be no problem. i'm waitin to get a daily driver before i start tearing mine apart for the rebuild.

i had a hard time with mine when i first got it, couldnt keep it running right (fuel injection)... turned out the fuel pump couldnt maintain a high enough pressure. The codes i got from the ecm told me i pretty much needed every sensor, and switch. DONT BELIEVE THE COMPUTER, rely on old school mechanical knowledge first. Now it runs awesome and gets better mileage than my taco, and i beat the crap out of it, over 200,000 miles

When i got my carburated 4cyl zu 4ZD1 motor the head gasket was leaking badly.
