^ That has crossed my mind in the past. You would need to drill the spindle taper out, and probably sleeve it to size, but a 3/4" or 7/8" rod end might fit with just drilling a hole. But you would probably be best to weld a nut to the bottom side of the spindle and run a jam nut on top. However that would possibly be too long for the rod end to engage in. It would probably be better to use a threaded bung like this and weld it into the spindle on both sides, with a jam nut on top.
No matter how you do it, you will most likely be moving the pivot of the upper control arms and changing the geometry. So that needs to be taken into consideration as well.
