my ball joint is maxed out when it is layed out....i dont get enough travel out of the ball joint...i will take pics of it at both points tommorrow....i did check out the howe ball joints but from the looks of it i will get more travel out of the uniballs

What is a good way to incorporate mounting these vertical? Dont you have to mount them into the top of the spindle? Whats a good way to do this?

also remember its also the angles of both joints in conjunction with each other but i think mounting the uni joint on a single shear application ie like a balljoint will limit your travel and at the stage you are at right now would be a good time to go ahead and put them verticly. will give you unlimited travel of the upper and just be limited by the lower which gets a ton of travel. then send the spindles to max to have the uniball welded to the spindle (which he does a great job with and turns it around in a very short amount of time). but remember that without using long arms most forced travel past a certain point like 8 to 10 inches gets pretty sketch with tow problems if not addressed in the engineering stages

Yeah they are a little high...mine weren't quite that high. But it was cheaper than buying drop spindles (They're Cast) so I could weld a misalignment spacer on. As my factory spindles are aluminum....

When I upgrade my wheel size im prolly gonna change my UCA and do something like this. Right now my bag is only about 75% maxed out. My UCA is limiting my travel. Far as bumpsteer...I get 14 inches of travel with less than and 1/8 bumpsteer. So little that is was really hard to get an exact measurement on it. The truck stays straight down the hwy at 70 an inch off the ground or 13 inches off the ground. With a little extra travel I might get a little bumpsteer but i don't see it being bad at all.

the geometry on that looks scary... maybe because its just layed out?







build a set of boxed spindles when you build your arms and run both upper and lower uniballs vertical. it limits steering but not that much in most cases you can still turn almost lock to lock if you use big enough jointsheim the mounting points of your uca to the frame too for even more adjustablilitythat will fix your lift problem and allow you to set up your front end prfectly

I'm building a NSB Chevy right now with verticle mounted upper joints. I will get a pic of the modified spindle tomorrow.

Crazy idea, but could you just buy a big heim and drill out the hole in the knuckle to put the heim stud through? Then you can bolt the heim to a couple of tabs on the arm. Hope that makes any sense. Maybe someone could draw it out....

^ That has crossed my mind in the past. You would need to drill the spindle taper out, and probably sleeve it to size, but a 3/4" or 7/8" rod end might fit with just drilling a hole. But you would probably be best to weld a nut to the bottom side of the spindle and run a jam nut on top. However that would possibly be too long for the rod end to engage in. It would probably be better to use a threaded bung like this and weld it into the spindle on both sides, with a jam nut on top.

No matter how you do it, you will most likely be moving the pivot of the upper control arms and changing the geometry. So that needs to be taken into consideration as well.

i always figured that if i just bolted it in and the steering was limited by the unijoint that it would twist the bolted on heim or unijoint and either losen it or have it twist in the spindle and having a threaded object spin with eventually wear out and cause slack and is a big no no from everything i have read which is y i just welded a 4link threaded rod onto the unijoint cup bolted it where it needed to be tacked it a few times and sent them out to max and had him weld it on. mine look very similiar to the way von did his. i can take a pic of the spindle and the control arms we made for the mazda we are working on and post them tommorrow
