They were never illegal, just outlawed for production. You can still own and ride them. I'm going to be building one soon though out of a 450 quad.

they were illegal too sell new (aka outlawed) in the USA in 1987. honda made them untill the mid 90's and sold over sea's. when you bought a 87 250r new from honda they ask if you wanted it converted to a 4 wheeler. yes i bought a 87 new, i bought a 250r 3 and 4 wheeler new the same day. both costed me like $4800.00. the last 250r quad i had i sold for $5200.00 and it was 14 years old.

I've had a Z50 two wheeler for years, probably the best bike I've ever owned. It has had the absolute crap beat out of it but it still runs like a champ. Its nice to have laying around the shop when you need to blow off some steam. My buddy can do a mean catwalk on it, I'm less skilled in that area, lol. Anyone have a tri moto or a tri zoo?
