hey bro, sorry about the ball joints, be careful when driving down the highway, KINDA EXPECT THE WORST. but hope everything works out.   could it be due to the -0 degree temps that the ball joints failed? I would'nt think it would be, but would'nt rule it out.    either way, hope you have a great trip home, wish you all the luck and after reading your story, I WILL NOT BE BUYING DJM for my truck, i was going to purchase there 4/6 kit for my 05 chevy silverado, but now im definetley going with mcgaughys.

ive only had blocks from them. but, on my 78 yota i snapped 2 sets in less than 2 months. fuck that noise kid. its got 96 hp. if it cant handle that, it shouldnt be sold as a universal kit. first time, it shattered a huge chunk out of each side. second set, i felt that crack before they fell out and pulled over. ended up cutting them in half, so its the bottom and that inner plate. drilled through them. used a grade 8 bolt, and that became the pin through 2 blocks and the leaf. so it wouldnt move anymore, if it was as he said "jumping around". im not a retard, ive installed blocks before. but that pissed me off. alot. after the first set, they said i could get a few bucks off. but summit already had it cheaper than that. then after the second set, i called again, and he said he would do half off the steel set. which is bs, being that i already spent more than the cost of those on 2 sets of the cast ones. he told me i could send them in for inspection, at my shipping cost, and if they met the warranty rules id get a free set...at my shipping.   if i run blocks on anything again (im a minitruck, i will. LOL.) im either making them from square tube and plate, or ordering from a different company. they havent broke yet. but thats because their pins arent there to pop off, snap the top half off and break. and i had a 4wd shop make me much nicer u bolts. so, i pretty much spent 150 bucks on a set of blocks that i had to make. gay. oh well, it made me tear it apart to pull a leaf and gain another 2". but still.   anyways, that sucks man. i bet they used them since its a cheaper part to send with the arms. but, for those prices they should have sprung for better shit. do those arms have a weird angle to them or something?

You might want to try reaming the spindle out for the older chevy dually balljoint. If I remember correctly your factory dually upper arm had a press in balljoint. Unfortantly the only bolt in balljoint for that truck is for the 1500 pick-up. For some stupid reason chevy made the taper rather small on the newer dually.

this is what i have found out since i am building my dually is that the 2500 ball joints ,contro arms, spindle, rotors, brake caiper,is all the same so maybe just maybe the kit you bought is the 2500(light duty) kit.

I HAVE ALSO HEARD THIS HAPPENING. I HAVE S SET OF DJMS THAT I PUT MOOG BALLJOINTS IN AND PLATED THE UNDERNEATH OF ARMS TRYING TO PREVENT THIS. . .

you might see what differences there is in your djms to your factory arms. if its the uppers that are breaking they may be the same as your factory arms just a tubular version. don't know anything about those chevy arms but i put a set on my 99 dodge and i layed the djms uppers next to my factory upper arms and they looked the same as far as dimesions go. something you might look into, may be able to put your factory arms back on and fix your problem. needless to say i will be replacing ball joints be for the dodge hits the road again, thanks for the warning.

I have DJM upper and lower control arms on my 2000 1500 silverado and I had a ball joint break as well when I was pulling into a parking lot going only a few mph a couple years ago, but I have since replaced everything with moog ball joints.

danm man sorry to hear about that. i to have the control arms on my 07 classic dually with a dmax in it. on our trucks the stock upper arms the balljoints press in. i hear about the issues of djm's balljoints so i bout 250 dollors worth of moogs to put on it when i installed the kit. you do have to replace the uppers more often. i put 30k miles on them then replaced them when i baged my truck at the first of the year. they were somewhat loose in the socket. but my boots were ripped up pretty bad so they wouldnt hold grease at all. that may be my reason to why. its deffinetly retarded to run a 1/2 ton ball joint. but the lower ball joint isnt a stock 3500 ball joint either. you may check your lowers mine got loose as well.   im glad no one got hurt thow!!  and you can acheive a 6 inch drop in the front with mcgaughys spindles and torsion keys. you wont have the retarded tie rod issue either if you swap. josh
