Yes that is true Nick, but I think generally the mags ask most people that they would feel could handle such a thing.  Not everyone here would know how to properly layout a 300dpi cmyk document for print with bleeds/safetys and such.

300 dpi is your resolution cmyk is your color mode which is what is used to print...not RGB...if you design in RGB your blues and greens are going to look way different in CMYK (print) Bleeds margins are printed colors that extend past the edge of a page. To cut the job to its actual size the processor has to make sure the job gets printed with 1/8 of an inch bleed some jobs may require more than that. For example if the job is a business card (3.5" x 2") the file size with bleed would be (3.625" x 2.125").Some document require more the 1/8" safety margins...always best to ask the printer or magazine for their specs. Safety margins are areas you want to stay within for important material that you don't want cut off at all like text or product images or whatever. For example if the job is a business card (3.5" x 2") the file size with bleed would be (3.375" x 1.875").  Some document require more the 1/8" safety margins...always best to ask the printer or magazine for their specs.
