i didn't know where to put this but i was wondering if any of yall knew about GM going out of business...? what's going to happen with all their inventory? i've read that as of october of this year, they're not going to renew contracts for hummer, saturn and saab... anyone know of anything? just curious...

it is a well known fact, hummer is gone, and that saturn is for sale to its dealers. them disconnecting from SAAB is nothing big. they are discontinuing pontiac next year also. buick will soon follow. pretty soon it is though that all that will stand is Chevrolet and Cadillac. GMC future isnt real bright. I do not think general motors is going anywhere though.

This has been in the news everyday for the last 6 months! They are probably going to have to file bankruptcy, not go out of business.

They are not going out of business, just filing bankruptcy, and closing 2300 dealerships (about half). Over 100,000 jobs will be lost.

i know they're filing bankruptcy- and the whole "bail-out" thing... i was just wondering WHICH manufacturers were done and which ones were staying... thanks brandt and cookie. i appreciate it!

The latest article I rear said they are closing 1000 dealerships, ditching Pontiac and Saturn, and filing. Not as bad as Chrysler tho, theyre already bankrupt, closed 800 dealerships, and they cant afford to buy back the cars so the dealerships are stuck with them. The date for closure is June 9th so expect to see tons of places have fire sales, nows the time to buy if youhave some loot!

I have never really understood why there was a GMC brand in the first place when they have Chevy trucks as well. To me it would seem smarter to have only one truck brand. Either Chevy or GMC. Personally I would vote for GMC as the truck brand and Chevy as the "car" brand. Just seems like a waste of money to have two truck brands that are so close and use many of the same parts.

GM is going no where. I just got layed off last month from the Arlington plant where they build Escalades, Tahoes, burbs, denalis etc., they're just restructuring things and cutting back on things where they're losing money.
