---------------------------------------------Originally posted by thenicksterGM is going no where. I just got layed off last month from the Arlington plant where they build Escalades, Tahoes, burbs, denalis etc., they're just restructuring things and cutting back on things where they're losing money.---------------------------------------------pertty much what i thought!

Oh and Buick is staying. The market for Buick here in the states is not that great, but is doing VERY well in certain Asian markets. It's like a luxury vehicle to them such as mercedes/bmw is here.

---------------------------------------------Originally posted by AVTekkThe latest article I rear said they are closing 1000 dealerships, ditching Pontiac and Saturn, and filing. Not as bad as Chrysler tho, theyre already bankrupt, closed 800 dealerships, and they cant afford to buy back the cars so the dealerships are stuck with them. The date for closure is June 9th so expect to see tons of places have fire sales, nows the time to buy if youhave some loot!---------------------------------------------The article I read said that this closure of 1,000-1,1100 was just the first step in their plan to close 2,300 or their 6,200 dealerships.  Which is closer to 1/3...not 1/2 like Brandt was saying.

Buy american is all I gotta say! Outsourcing is killing us in the long run.  No offense, I love me some Toyota as well...

Its the comments like that, that get me going pretty much.  GM wants to outsource most of their new vehicles and import from Korea and China, then be called a domestic product still.  I don't know how it is in the States, but here in Canada, GM has maybe 4 plants left, and Toyota and Honda both do pretty much the same production.  I just know from reading about it that Hyundai is pretty big in Kentucky and those areas.  So Those should be the domestic now.

I heard this once and it made me chuckle. "Buy American cars and support American companies. Buy foreign cars and support American workers." Like I said, I chuckled because its true.Later,Chad

Yeah, I saw a comment on one of the evening big 3 news channels, interviewing folks from the Detroit area, a guy made a remark about how we can't keep buying all these foreign cars, we gotta support the big 3, etc...      There's a stat somewhere I saw a couple years back about how a Toyota or Honda mini-van (i forget which) was MORE American than the Ford Mustang.  It gave a percentage of how much of the mustang is either built in mexico or at least parts are supplied from mexico.  Made me laugh.  I'm as patriotic as they come, my grandfather retired from Ford some 30-40 years ago, everyone in my family drives a ford, and that's great.  But I work for Toyota here in ALABAMA, we ship our engines to Texas and Indiana where they are put in trucks and suvs, that go straight to your dealer...  seems pretty American/domestic to me.  I drive a Chevrolet myself, but the whole 'buy american' line is not holding much weight these days.  The big 3 are in deep poo, and Toyota is as low as its ever been, i mean the numbers they give us each week-month showing how down sales are, just makes you cringe. BUT, Toyota is in the best position to withstand the blow. Don't hate'em just b/c they are a smart company lol.   We've cut back, even more lean than what we used to be (which was pretty darn lean), BUT we havn't had a layoff since like 1958 I believe?  Says alot about the company, and I'm proud to say I work there.  But Toyota will be the first to jump in and help in anyway, b/c they know they can't be successful if they're competition struggles or fails.  They want the big 3 to do well.  (Thus Toyotas partnership with GM out in California, the only Union Toyota plant i think).  It'll all work out, it's not like in a few years there will be no GM  - but its a shame so many are losing their jobs..-mikey p

just remember that no business is to big to fail..that is the mentality people have and things die out and come back all the time if they fail they fail someone will buy it that knows how to run it....and the unions need to go in my opinion
