gumsack, i guess you've heard it too, the injectors crack and fail.  i admit i don't know much about diesels, i was a auto mechanic and race car builder until the business i worked at decided to quit and change ownerships but anyways, we worked on a few diesels and thats all the experience that i have with them.  also, i have a friend who works at a ford dealership and he said the new twin turbo ford powerstrokes are throwing ballbearings out of their turbos. and they made a recall on them. so heads up on anyone wanting to get one. but they should be under warranty and have a replacement on the recalls. sorry for overtaking the thread

why is gumsack so angry? calm down. haha   And yeh mater is right about the common 6.5 problems. Ours has run hot and cracked a dead and eats pmd's like candy. fixna relocate ours again. btw russell thats what you can relocate. yours has already been moved so i would leave it for now and see how it does.

No, the relocation kit is for the PMD (pump mounted driver). It gets it off the engine so that is can get the benefit of cooler operating tempratures. I know this thread was a question  about exhaust, so sorry for the side track. I just want anyone thinking of buying a 6.5L to know what they are getting into. They see all the power numbers on modern diesels and think they are all the same. The 6.5 and 6.2 were developed by Detroit Diesel for one thing only - fuel economy. The were never intended for power.  Yes, the optical sensor is the main reason of failure in the Stanadyne DB2 and DB4 pumps found on these engines. But again, most failures on the 6.5L is due to the PMD not the pump.  I have come to notice some failuers of late that I am begging to contribute to the use of ULS diesel. These engines and pumps were designed to run on High Sulfur diesel.  Sorry for side tracking the thread.

I got a pmd relocator with a pmd and maybe even a spare pmd I will make you a good deal on.

ford never had this problem with their good ole 7.3

Mater   +1y

7.3L does not have an injection pump per se. It had a lift pump to pull full to the engine and the a high pressure oil pump to pressurize the fuel. Only reall achilles heel of the 7.3l was the injector harnesses, really good engine design.

back pressure is your enemy in diesel applications exhaust temps are the devil so bigger is less is less do a 4" turbo back into some sweet stacks hahahahahaha
