you cant run 4 inch on a stock diesel motor.get the bully dog 3.5 turbo back that will be the best thing for you or if you want cheap but good you can go with mbrp exhaust but they only have cat back i believe? but i have to repet dont go any bigger you can burn up injectors or far worst things could happed it isnt like a gas motor even then bigger isnt better.Bully dog would be the best one thou and i would also get the pmt if you can

i believe you have facts ass backward...  you could run a 5 in exhaust on a stock diesel engine all day long and it wouldnt harm it one bit, it way get a little hot if your really workin it but if your workin that hard your should have a pyrometer anyway... it wouldn't help performance like a 4 in might but it wouldn't do any damage...  i really don't know gas engines well but i always thought they could be really finicky with overly larger exhaust.. i'm curious as to why the injectors would burn up... and what is a pmt?

on gas engines you have to watch out on big exhaust for backpressure.  to run a 4 inch on a gas engine you have to make at 500 hp and on a 5 inch (yes 5 inch is huge lol and it would be hard on a daily driver) you need atleast 800.  but i'm not much of a diesel guy but i know a little about them, bigger isn't always better but 4 inch would work fine on a daily. the only bad thing i've come across on the duramax is i've change a few bad injectors (they cracked and was leaking diesel in the bottom pan not good) but it made the diesel sound like it was skipping which it was cause it wasn't exploding like it was suppose to.

I had a single 4 inch exhaust on mine. Got it done at a muffler shop.

Actually not to contradict all..... But the  muffler is irrelevant on a TURBO diesel engine. The Turbo acts as both a sound baffle and check valve for the engine. Backpressure is stopped at the turbo. My 7.3l powerstrok had factory pipe with no muffler and was fine. Nice turbo whistle through the pipe.  Good luck on the 6.5L. Not a real powerful motor, but can be reliable if maintained correctly. Overheating was the biggest issue, along with various otgher things. Harmonic balancer problems on the late 96+ models. One thing I can recommend is before you invest in an exhaust. Get the PMD relocator kit. The injection pump driver is bolted to the engine from the factory. It uses diesel flowing through it to cool it. However due to engine heat saturation it never worked right, constant source of headaches. The driver will fail and most people will try ti sell you a new Inj pump.  I have alot of expirence with these engines. Ask away if needed.

opps i ment 5 inch sorry..... but a 4 inch would be ok and yeah if you do run a full 5inch from the turbo back not some muffler shop hack job cus thats funny on you chevy the exhaust you would be layin on when you layed out so no you dont have a true 5 inch turbo back  and if you do put a pick up on here and prove me wrong on that one please .and yes your right on a gas motor you have to have the hp to have a big exhaust you are correct. i guess if you want to burn up your turbo or fry your injectors on that 97 chevy diesel motor which are know for have turbo faiilures and messed up injectors than yeah screw it put it on there and in a couple weeks i guess i will see it on here for sale then uh?and if you want better info why dont you get off your ass and call bully dog them self they will tell you not to run no bigger than a 4 inch but you have to have a cold air kit and a chip.PMT IS A BULLY DOG CHIP DUMB ASS I THOUGHT YOU KNEW ABOUT DIESELS DAMN YOUR DUMB PICK UP A MAG OR LOOK AT THE INTERNET OTHER THAN BARN YARD PORN>

Not to get in the middle of this....   Bullydog does not make a chip for the 6.5l GM (Detroit Diesel), Banks does not make a chip for the 6.5L diesel. To my knowledge no one make a chip for it. Because the injectors are not computer controlled. They are indirect injected engines. You cannot, cannot push the injectors to make for more fuel in an indirect injected diesel because you will skyrocket the engine temprature. The 6.5L is an 18:1 and in late models a 20.2:1 compression engines to overcome the lack of advancing fuel curves that modern direct injected diesels have. You are talking about an engine that made maybe 215hp. In my 10+ yrs of wrench time on diesels the only major problems that the 6.5L suffered from was overheating, inj pumps going bad due to the optical sensor inside it from poor fuel quality ( people not changing fuel fitlers ), oil leaks from the pan and cracked heads on early models due to poor casting.

is the optical sensor the component that ive heard they make a relocation kit for to move it around the fan up front to keep it cool? and yes cobb, pink with purple polka dots. neon green interior with orange piping on the seats.
