i have something draining my battery and i traced the source down to 2 wires. im not sure what they go to and don't know what i should do to fix the drain.


the first person who helps me figure out what is draining the batter will get a free rendering or any art work you want.


i did all the hard work im just hoping someone has seen this problem before and knows what to look for.


in the first picture you can see there is 2 wires that are draining a 12volt current when the battery is connected


 


 


in this second picture you can see what fuses those wires connect to to help you understand the diagram. one is connected to the AM1 40A fuse as i labeled #1. the other wire is labeled #5 and is connected to the ALT 100A fuse


 


 


 


now in the picture of the diagram #5 wire is between the battery and the fuse box and looks like it has a wire taping into it thats most likely the source of the drain that wire leads to AM2 in the ignition switch


the other wire i labeled #1runs to the starter relay but AM1 taps into it for the ignition switch


so my prediction is that AM1 and AM2 are both my drain and both are connected to the ignition switch


IS THE IGNITION SWITCH WHATS CAUSING THE DRAIN OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE. IF IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH HOW WILL I TEST IT ?

did it just start happening all of a sudden? did it start after you did smething?

on what kind of vehicle?

You can check to see if you are getting power on any of the wires on the right side of the ignition switch. According to the diagram no power should be feeding through there with the ignition off.

yeah im with you nick...i got something draining my battery down also

following the wiring schematics im gonna say your ignition switch is messed up and is stuck open in accesory or igniton position. what kind of vehicle

so with the truck off check under the column if your accesory or ignition wire has power. the only thing that should have 12 volts with the truck off and the key not in the cylinder is your constant. in your case am1 and am2

Are you laying out the vehicle on, especially soft ground or most surface?  A friend of mine was storing a bagged dually for someone and it would lose charge everytime we layed it out in the grass, because of the ground wire to the frame and it grounded out to the dirt.  I'm sure there was more wrong with the truck than that but, it was one reason.  It usually went dead within a few hours.

On your white wire headed to the ign switch (the part right behind the key) the diagram shows it goes from the fuse up to the switch. But also continues on up and off the page. I'd trace that wire down to it's next stop and see what it does. Most likely is the part making it drain. If the key switch is bad, the accys in the car might still be running. But unlikely. look for where the rest of that white wire went. With the key off, use a MULTIMETER, not a test light do measure voltage after that next part.or foe shits and grins, take the multimeter from a good ground again, with the key off, and probe the switch(#4 the black with yellow stripe, #8 the black with white stripe, and #3 black with orange stripe) if there is even a fraction of voltage present at any of these places, you have found the culprit. GOOD LUCK! Ok, just realized what you were saying with the white wire and where it goes. Then check the white wire at the starter relay to see if there is juice passing thru it (same way as above)
