---------------------------------------------Originally posted by dailydraggnmaybe ghetto but i had a small pin hole and used jb weld and a small screw never had an issue  ---------------------------------------------This actually sounds like a good idea. I have tried all those putties and "gas tank repair" kits and those never worked for me. Ended up going to the scrap yard and getting a new tank for $50.

And can I ask what kind of vehicle this is for to where the gas tank would cost $700?

i had my aluminum fuel cell welded 4 different times, and it kept leaking... so my brother pulled the cell, drained the fuel, scuffed the leaky areas with 60 grit sand paper, jb welded it, then let that dry overnight, then scuffed that again and jb welded it again, it no longer leaks, and you cant see it anyways... Saved me $300 for a new fuel cell

Someone above mentioned a bar of soap, believe it or not this works.  It was the only thing that would stop the leak to get my tank dry enough and then place the filler and haven't had a problem since, I used the stuff pictured above just mix a piece and put it on.

what you can do is take gas tank and put some soap in the  filler and then soak down the inside of the tank and get all the gas smell and stuff out so you can weld up the hole take to time to clean it good so you dont blow your self up welding it  just make sure it is very gas free and once your done you can poure this chemical you buy a local auto parts stop the coats the inside of the gas tank to protect you from rust...  but if your tank is plastic the make a 2 part epoxy can't use if your tank is full of gas i used it it sorta suck if it is leaking bad i drained the tank and then cleaned all the years of crap on spot so you get a better bond then apply the epoxy takes about 24 hr to cure but will allow you to install and pour gas back in about 8 hrs
